This is a wonderful Staffordshire lidded casserole decorated with a brown transfer printed scene. The casserole has a large spoon that sits within the notch in the lid. All pieces are made of glazed earthenware. Only the lid is marked with an impressed sun-type mark that, although I cant be 100% certain, appears to have been used by the Old Hall Earthenware company, active from 1861 until 1886,. The casserole measures 7 3/4 by 11 1/4, exclusive of its handles, and has a height of about 7 3/4 to the top of the lids handle. The casserole is in very good condition with the exception of a couple of small chips to the interior rim as well as a short hairline on the interior and a chip to the top handle of the lid (see last close-up photo), very minor damage for a piece of this type and age. Please note that the top of the lid may be slightly yellowed, but this could be bleached.
This is a beautiful display piece for a Victorian decor - very attractive form and transfer printed image!
