A majestic Egyptian Revival necklace by Kenneth Jay Lane. The gold tone necklace is a chain of alternating cartouche and statuette links. The cartouches bear "hieroglyphics." The statuette depicts the Egyptian goddess Tefnut, the lion-headed deity of moisture, dew, and rain. Absolutely fabulous. The necklace is finished with a spring ring clasp and a tag that reads "Kenneth Lane." Circa 1970.

Kenneth Jay Lane was a prominent American costume jewelry designer. Marilyn Bender, The New York Times journalist, wrote in 1966 that the "most important men in a fashionable woman's life were her hairdresser, her make-up artist, and Kenneth Jay Lane."

Details.....The necklace is 35" long. The Tefnut figure measures 2.1" by 0.37", and the cartouche is 1.09" by 0.62". In Very Good Vintage Condition, with some slight wear to the gold metal. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
