The Athletics started their history in Baseball in Philadelphia. The A's have had a few Nicknames in their years. One was, "The White Elephants" which was created by the then New York Giants. They took the name and put it on their patches, clothes etc. They were also known in the 1970's as the Swingin' A's for Disco years. (poor guys). Backtracking the team moved in 1955 and they were now known as "The Kansas City Athletics". They did not do well there and in 1968 finally moved to Oakland. With Charlie O. Finley at the helm things started changing for the A's. He brought in fresh players and new uniforms. They began to win too, with Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter. Then in 1989, the Bash Brothers, Canseco and McGuire and a little Rumble called the Loma Prieta Earthquake, along with Bay Rivals the San Francisco Giants. The A's won. (Side note: both my husband & I were at work, John on Golden Gate Bridge, checking for damage. I was trying to calm down a co-worker who thought her husband was on The Bay Bridge or the collapse of Interstate 880. It took him one day to get home but he was safe!) In 2012 the A’s moved into the new renovated Coliseum and in 2013 they went to the Wild Card Berth in 2018 was Division Title. They have not been near the World Series since 2006.
